Professional teeth whitening can effectively brighten your smile for the social spring and summer season. Whether planning to attend a wedding, graduation, work interview or other social gathering, teeth whitening can give you a smile you can be proud to show off!
Causes of Tooth Discoloration
- Poor oral hygiene
- Foods and drinks like berries, wine, coffee and tea
- Smoking and tobacco habits
- Certain medications
Professional teeth whitening uses a powerful whitening gel that is safe and gentle on your teeth and gums. When applied to the surface of your tooth enamel the gel breaks up the molecular bonds of the stains and discoloration, leaving you with lighter-looking teeth. You can have your teeth whitened in the office or at home with our take-home kits. We offer you the following professional teeth whitening options:
-Custom Whitening Trays: Custom whitening trays whiten teeth from the comfort of your own home. You will have a consultation with our dentists to see if teeth whitening trays are a good option for your smile. Impressions are taken to create custom trays (they come in pairs) for your upper and lower arches. Once you are ready to whiten your teeth at home, take the gel syringe and squeeze drops of gel along the inside of the tray. Depending on the gel strength and the dentist’s directions, you can wear the trays anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, or while you sleep. Expect to see improvements in the brightness of your smile after only a week or two!
-Laser Teeth Whitening: This in-office treatment brightens the shade of your teeth by two to four shades in a short period of time. It takes about an hour in the office and you will receive a complimentary set of custom whitening trays to use at home. Treatments that are similar to laser teeth whitening are Boost™ and Zoom.
-Enamel Microabrasion: This option serves as an alternative to traditional teeth whitening by removing stubborn discoloration and improving your tooth’s color. This gentle process won’t harm your teeth but still greatly enhances your teeth’s appearance. Microabrasion is often used when traditional teeth whitening treatments haven’t worked, by removing the stained section entirely without removing more enamel than necessary. Tooth stains are gently cleaned with a mild acid to reduce or remove staining to prepare the tooth for the next step of lightening (even restoring the shape if needed). Our dentists then polish the treated tooth so that it blends in with your other teeth.
