May 25th: Memorial Day

Posted .

Happy Memorial Day! This year we’ll celebrate all veterans as well as healthcare workers and essential workers that have succumbed to COVID-19. This holiday is typically spent with friends and family around a barbecue and a springtime spread. Surely this year, grills will still be fired up and people will be soaking in the afternoon sun (but of course, with those that we’ve sheltered in place with).

In some opinion editorials published since the start of the shelter-in-place have referenced this event as “The Great Pause”. The name comes from all of our lifestyles enduring a massive change from mandated isolation and social distancing. In this lifestyle change, we’ve been given the opportunity to reflect on what truly matters in our lives. There’s a silver lining in every rain cloud, and this Memorial Day, we can truly reflect on the millions of Americans and immigrants who have sacrificed their lives for our country.

We have these fine people to thank for our freedoms and the safety of our society. It’s truly an idea to celebrate that we have such selfless individuals in our communities that put their others’ safety before their own. Hopefully, this Memorial Day will serve as a shining light in this concerning time. Join us in celebrating our selfless heroes. Happy Memorial Day to all, and may you have a rejoiceful and safe holiday.
